Something’s Fishy in Vermilion…

We’re already hooked on the idea of a great walleye season..

With the temps finally headed in the right direction and with every passing day we cannot think about anything but the one that got away (AND the one’s that didn’t). It’s time to talk fishing.

Reel good news….

Last year’s boating season allowed us to see some of the largest Walleye catches in a decade. The thing that was even more exciting to anglers is the amount of Walleye caught that were just too young to keep and had to be tossed back. Meaning, this season could shape up to be one for the record books as those fish mature.

Tarter Sauce sales expected to rise…

Even though it is only February, you can already feel the anticipation when our fisherman stop in to renew their docks. It is like they kept track of the number of toss-backs in those hot-spots and are chomping at the bit to get back out there.

Now these pics are what we call the greatest hits of 2017 (that we had a chance to view).

Yet most every weekend at our gas docks you can see that the theme here is one of excitement for anglers in the coming season. So grab your favorite tackle box and pole and mark those calendars, Spring is just around the corner.

Believe us, it’s not just “Fishfull Thinking”… Time to get hooked!

The New Romps.com v/ 7.0 … “R” Internet Journey.

The times, they’re a changing…

Just like the cartoon of Sherman and Mr. Peabody, we like to get into our own version of the Wayback Machine as we update our web presence here at Romps.com. With required updates to our website this week (making viewing it more secure) we thought it would be fun to take a look back all the way to 1996 with the first Romps.com and beyond.

The World Wide Web that we weave….

Above you can see Romps.com v. 1.0. This would be our basic site for another three or four years and served us well. The docks actually bounced when you put your mouse over them.  One mistake we would later regret was having our email in plain text on the surface. Alot of spam came our way.

Next up was Version 2.0 pictured below.

rwp v2

We stuck with this site from the late 90’s to the early 2000’s.

Around 2003 we shifted gears and styles with a fresh paint job and Romps.com v. 3.0 (below) was born. This site was actually done by a graphic artist we found online in Germany of all places. The images rotated every second in the pic on the right.

Of course v. 4.0 (below) was next, with Bloging/News added to the front page. This was in May of 2013.

Next on deck was v/ 5.0, our personal favorite. The fish in the background swam as you scrolled down and a worm on a hook would drop down as well. This site served us from 2014 until 2016. But sadly, the author of the page template no longer offered updates.

Which led to v. 6.0 in 2017… And a more back to basics approach. This site was easier for phone and tablets to view.

And finally v. 7.0 for 2018. Why the switch so soon? Well, the new requirements of internet safety have us using a more secure system to display our content for you. Notice the “Secure” feature in the address bar. This will become more important for small businesses sharing information like ours in the future.

We hope you enjoyed our brief trip down memory lane and look forward to you stopping back here often for news and updates.

Till then, we hope to see you dockside!

Have a Sweet Valentine’s Day…

And another week closer to spring…

With a blanket of white on the ground and some seasonably mild temps, why not take time to enjoy Valentine’s Day with that special someone. We always look forward to this day as a countdown mark on our march toward spring and the boating season ahead.

Say something sweet, maybe with some candy..

This little tidbit below was sent to us and we found it both funny and sweet (pun intended). Though as a word of advice, you may want to get something a little less humorous as an actual gift.  For the romantics in all of us…

funny boating candy

Finally, we just want all of our Captain’s and Crew to know that we are working toward getting the marina ready so at the very first sign of spring we can get back to boating. In the meantime if your wondering where your boat would like to spend the summer, give us a call we would love to show you all we have to offer.

After all the saying goes, “All you need is love, but a little boating never hurts”;

We hope to see you dockside!

Look at the bright-side..52 Days until launch.

Glass is always half full at your home-port!

Though it’s cold outside, and the ground is covered in a blanket of white, we here at your home-port choose to look beyond today to a better tomorrow! Even though the first day of launch is 52 days away, the acutal week docks go back in is only 4 or 5 weeks away (if Mother Nature chooses to cooperate).

Now is the time to get in ship shape…

What you can do in the meantime is take some simple steps. First of which is check your boats registration paperwork. Ohio’s Boat registrations all expire in March well before you even have a chance to get in the water. So don’t be that Captain who comes to the dock ready to go and then realizes he his ship isn’t ready to sail, do the paperwork now long before the sunny days arrive.

Also on your list should be to check your boat insurance as well as towing insurance. No matter how new your boat is, or what condition it is kept in, towing insurance is always recommended. For even the newest props and outdrives can fall prey to a rare log impact.  Why  not start the season worry free? Save the time during the sunny days for strictly playtime.

marina sunny day

And finally, wait for those launch orders which will be arriving in a few weeks. Chart a plan now of services you may need and when the time is right it will be much easier to remember all the items on your list.

For prevention is always better than cure….we can’t wait to see you dockside! Take care.

Next Up, “R” Open House..and You!

Tis a bit chilly..but.

We all know that the cold weather outside now just makes us appreciate the warm that follows. Before you know it, we will start to think about putting boats in and hopefully forget all this single digit frigidness. In fact, here is a pic to help you think warm thoughts.

Sunset Romps

Winter’s a Bummer, Can’t wait till Summer!

So what can we do about this in the meantime? How about a little get together for all of our Captain’s and Crew to reassure us all of better days ahead.

Join us at Romp’s Open House (aka “Sunshine in January” Party) next weekend January 27 & 28 from 11am to 2pm. We will be serving Hot Dogs, & Ice Cream Sundaes (yes, Dairy Dock Ice Cream in the winter as we will have a machine up and running) and all your favorite beverages. Plus, door prizes every half hour and even a little Goody Bag full of treats.

So mark you  Calendar and join us for comradery and cheer!

This too, shall pass… Plus New Year’s Resolutions you can keep!

Cold Start to a New Year…

We know this is quite the cold snap. But with every week, we also know we are one week closer to another boating season. Sure the weather may look dreary now, but just hang in there before long we will be right back in the swing of things.

So you need a New Years Resolution?

Instead of diet fads or unused memberships to the gym, how about one that will last all summer long and you can involve the whole family. This year make a resolution you can keep….. go boating!

Finally, one last chance to remind you that though it may be cold right now, it will soon be warm again!

Stay safe, stay warm, and stay excited about the boating season to come. Cheers!

Merry Christmas…”R” Ho-Ho-Holiday Schedule

Yule love time with family…

It’s that time of year again, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost etc, and we are very much looking forward, as we do every year, to spending some of that Christmas time with our family and friends.

But before we break out the eggnog, we better get you up to speed on what that means.

Starting Saturday Dec 16th we will be closed and will be taking a couple of weeks off, we will return on January 2nd.

We will still be in and out of the marina daily, so if you need us just email or call and leave a message and we will get back to your promptly.

We hope you get Gold, Frankincense, and so very much Myrrh!

Other then that we are ready to  make Merry and hope that you are too. We wish all of our Captain’s and Crew the very best this Christmas, and so many, many good things to come in the New Year!

So stay warm, stay safe and enjoy your time with family, we will see you next year!

We Give Thanks…Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Turkey Day arrives just in time for family and fun.

We want to take a minute to thank all of our Captains and Crew for a great boating season. With Thanksgiving week arriving, we hope you get a chance to enjoy your time with family and friends. We also hope that any travels you may have are safe and not too much of a hassle.

Below is the first Romp’s Thanksgiving (imagined)

We kid of course, but one of things we do need to share with you is the Marina’s hours will be a little different this week.

This is a season of thanks, and we here at your homeport are very grateful, we hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving!

Turkey Time Approaches…Stay Frosty My Friends.

Frost is on the ground, though no ice covers the channel yet, the skies are showing signs of the weather to come. The chilly cold remnants of fall are setting in as we are out and about putting the marina to bed for the winter. Next will be several weeks of maintenance as we have some repair work to do dockside, yet we are already thinking of next season.

Even though it’s dark earlier and earlier we try to remind ourselves it’s always darkest before the dawn and the sun never really sets on a great boating season.

As Cool Air, Seasonable Skies “Fall” in to Vermilion….

And, with Turkey Day coming up soon we have some schedule changes we would like to share with you.

We Give Thanks! If we don’t see you before then, Enjoy Thanksgiving!

Leaves falling, Autumn Calling….

With both the leaves and the temps falling, docks head to shore…

It’s a bittersweet time of year at your homeport, while we look back fondly on the season that was we also prep for the cold that’s about to arrive.

As you can see from the pic above, the docks are migrating to shore right after the boats. It has been a pleasent pull-out season as you can see we are enjoying quite a show of colors from what leaves remain on the trees.

But the weather forecast starting tomorrow is a cold one, so with that we just want folks to know we are back to our winter schedule which is the following

Marine Store/Office

10am to 4pm Monday-Tuesday-Thursday-Friday

Service Dept

8am to 5pm Weekdays

For those folks needing dock information, or wanting to drop off a payment please call us. We can accommodate payments right over the phone, and if you need dock information we can meet you most anytime, even after hours. Just contact us to pick a time.

We hope to see you dockside!
