Fish Festival Returns with a bang!

The fuse is lit on a great forecast…

Sure we like to get a little “punny” with the firework references but why not get excited because this weekend brings with it a festival complete with fireworks!

You…. light up my life…Vermilion Chamber of Commerce.

Fish Festival

Both of these events are brought to you by the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce which can be found here on the web, and here on facebook. Their will be many festivities downtown on Main Street as visitors and locals alike take in the festival celebrating Lake Erie’s Fishing bounty. In fact, it even comes with a Crazy Craft race and a lighted boat parade. Details at the links above.

What this means for your whole crew is a great opportunity to view fireworks from your boat. Now their will be some river traffic considerations to be aware of. If your planning on boating Friday after dusk you should take the time to read the announcement below.

From the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce:
Vermilion Boaters, Visiting Boaters, Vermilion Marina’s and Vermilion Community important safety announcement for 2019 Festival of the Fish Fireworks temporary River Closure June 17h⚓️ please read!!!

On June 17th 2019 the Festival of the Fish Committee will be hosting fireworks on the detached break wall at the entrance to the Vermilion River. Due to the safety of this event we are asking spectators and boaters to take a look at the map of the area and please be aware of our safety zones that will be set in place.

The west entrance to the Vermilion River will not be accessible once the fireworks are placed on the break wall. We are asking that boaters use the east entrance to navigate both in and out of the Vermilion River.

There will be complete river closure starting at 9:30pm until 11:00pm or later. The fireworks display is set to begin at 10:00pm. There will be five to six temporary buoys set up 500’ around the detached break wall and boaters are permitted to watch the fireworks show on the north side of these buoys. Both attached piers the one by Main Street Beach and the other by Lagoon Beach will be off limit to spectators.

WoolyBear Weekend..A bit of Caterpillar Craziness.

This weekend could be a “Bear”, and that’s a good thing.

Well, it’s that time of year again. The Woolybear Festival arrives in Vermilion and with it some terrific temps for boaters.

w1

For those of you unfamiliar with the Woolybear festival it started as a small project of Dick Goddard involving the forecasting of winter, and grew over the years to nearly 100,000 folks visiting our little town. The Woolybear Caterpillar is said to be a great predictor of the upcoming winter season. The thicker the coat, and varied dimensions of the Woolybears rings the harsher the winter and then again the lighter the coat and coloring the fairer the cold conditions are said to be.

Of course it’s more then just about bugs, there will be entertainment, food stuffs and all kinds of family friendly activity throughout the downtown.

wooly

This all takes place Sunday the 10th.

What this means for Romp’s Dockers

Not much will change here at Romp’s. You still will be able to access the marina like usual, and your dockside parking will not be affected. There will be kids out front of the marina parking cars for Vermilion Soccer club. They will let any marina dockers pass without issue.

The only thing you need concern yourselves with will be traffic. There will be a lot of folks coming into town, and a parade at mid-day so please plan ahead. Come early or wait till late afternoon.

We hope to see you dockside.
