This too, shall pass… Plus New Year’s Resolutions you can keep!

Cold Start to a New Year…

We know this is quite the cold snap. But with every week, we also know we are one week closer to another boating season. Sure the weather may look dreary now, but just hang in there before long we will be right back in the swing of things.

So you need a New Years Resolution?

Instead of diet fads or unused memberships to the gym, how about one that will last all summer long and you can involve the whole family. This year make a resolution you can keep….. go boating!

Finally, one last chance to remind you that though it may be cold right now, it will soon be warm again!

Stay safe, stay warm, and stay excited about the boating season to come. Cheers!

Merry Christmas…”R” Ho-Ho-Holiday Schedule

Yule love time with family…

It’s that time of year again, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost etc, and we are very much looking forward, as we do every year, to spending some of that Christmas time with our family and friends.

But before we break out the eggnog, we better get you up to speed on what that means.

Starting Saturday Dec 16th we will be closed and will be taking a couple of weeks off, we will return on January 2nd.

We will still be in and out of the marina daily, so if you need us just email or call and leave a message and we will get back to your promptly.

We hope you get Gold, Frankincense, and so very much Myrrh!

Other then that we are ready to  make Merry and hope that you are too. We wish all of our Captain’s and Crew the very best this Christmas, and so many, many good things to come in the New Year!

So stay warm, stay safe and enjoy your time with family, we will see you next year!

Brace your elf….Christmas around the corner!

Jolly Old Elf Visits Vermilion on his upcoming world tour.

We have about another week to go before all of us here at Romp’s will take a bit of a holiday break to spend time with friends and family, and maybe even get some eggnog as well. We always look forward to Christmas as this season of giving is a great time of year.

santa list

He’s Making a list, and checking it twice…

We also know that when Santa does fill up the sled that all of our Captain’s and Crews will have made the nice list, so the big picture is taken care of. But what does one get for the boater while the boat is waiting for summer? Well one way you can make any Captain happy is to give the gift that keeps on giving all year long.

As you already have the boat, how about a Romp’s Gift Card for the stocking?

That’s right, with one call we can take your order for most any amount, and send your favorite Captain a gift card for things like fuel, paint, supplies, wax, or beer and pop. Anything the marina sells (including Dairy Dock coins, and Putter Port passes) can be purchased with a Romp’s Gift Card.

So give a gift that lasts all season long, the gift of boating here at your homerport!

We hope to see you dockside!

Santa arrives in V-town…Tree-mendous Christmas to follow!

Brace your Elfs…For tis the season…

We know it is still November but it hard to ignore the signs of the season all around us, one of which was Santa making an early visit to Vermilion, by boat of course.

(pic below by Scott Dommin)

And that’s just the beginning.. It’s also time to Branch Out.

Did you know Santa’s helpers make a return trip this weekend with Christmas Trees for sale?

Christmas Tree Ship
From Main Street Vermilion :

“All hands on deck! The Christmas Tree Ship Lands on Saturday at 10:30AM at McGarvey’s Landing (Quaker Steak and Lube) Music, coloring contest winners, singing and stories, cookies and cocoa and the Lorain Coast Guard Cutter will escort the boat to the dock. Buy a tree or wreath off the boat or just come for the atmosphere!”

So you can see this town is really starting to look like a Hallmark Movie. Though it is no surprise to us because we know where that Jolly Ole’ Elf likes to spend his off season.

Santa at Romps

So tune in, drop by and share a little Christmas Cheer for everyone to hear at your home-port.

We Give Thanks…Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Turkey Time Approaches…Stay Frosty My Friends.

Frost is on the ground, though no ice covers the channel yet, the skies are showing signs of the weather to come. The chilly cold remnants of fall are setting in as we are out and about putting the marina to bed for the winter. Next will be several weeks of maintenance as we have some repair work to do dockside, yet we are already thinking of next season.

fall lake erie

Even though it’s dark earlier and earlier we try to remind ourselves it’s always darkest before the dawn and the sun never really sets on a great boating season.

Leaves falling, Autumn Calling….

With both the leaves and the temps falling, docks head to shore…

It’s a bittersweet time of year at your homeport, while we look back fondly on the season that was we also prep for the cold that’s about to arrive.

As you can see from the pic above, the docks are migrating to shore right after the boats. It has been a pleasent pull-out season as you can see we are enjoying quite a show of colors from what leaves remain on the trees.

But the weather forecast starting tomorrow is a cold one, so with that we just want folks to know we are back to our winter schedule which is the following

That’s a wrap, thanks all for a great year!

For everything there is a season, and as we enter November at your homeport it closes the book officially on the boating calendar for 2017.

So, with the winds howling, and the boats all prepped on land for their long winter naps, we have some changes to update you on dockside.

First and foremost is that the Gas Docks are now closed for the year.  We thank everyone who supported us this year and can’t wait to get right back on the water in 2018, your business is very much appreciated.

Spooktacular time of year at your homeport!

BOOoats head to shore this Halloween Weekend..

It’s that time of year when most all of the boats are prepped for the long winter nap ahead. With Halloween arriving as well, the best part is you can go to any event already dressed as a Captain or Crew.

Halloween tower

unBOOlievable.

Starting with tonight, the town has the Vermilion American Legion Halloween Parade (Thursday, October 26th 6pm…Parade line-up at 6:15pm) at the Sailorway Middle School.  They are serving wickedly delicious donuts! That’s right,  here in the spooky streets of Vermilion, you may see a ghost or goblin running around, so please be on the lookout when your out and about.

witch vermilion

Creep it real.

Finally, for “R” dockers, October 31st marks the last day your boat can be at the dock, as we will start to pull the very last boats Monday, followed not to shortly by  the docks.

A side note: With much cooler temps arriving the dockside water will be shutoff and winterized Friday afternoon.

Also, if you have not had a chance to empty your dock box, please do so soon we hope to have them all collected and stored this weekend in prep of winterizing the rest of the marina.

Now is the time to make sure your ready, and we can help.

Sure it looks like another mid-70 degree weekends on tap, and we appreciate an Indian Summer as much as the next guy, but we also know that the temps soon fall after the leaves do. Better to be prepared for the inevitable.
