Tonight’s the night for the start of Vermilion’s Fish Festival so get ready. Tonight, June 16th, the Fish Festival committee will presenting the annual FIREWORKS kickoff! This exciting event will take place right off of Vermilion’s own breakwall at the entrance to the harbor.

Due to safety, and the fact it will be held at the mouth of the Vermilion River there are some issues that all boaters should be aware of. The details below were provided by the Festival of the Fish committee and the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce:
- Due to the safety of this event we are asking spectators and boaters to take a look at the map (below) of the area and please be aware of our safety zones that will be set in place.
- The west entrance to the Vermilion River will not be accessible once the fireworks are placed on the break wall. We are asking that boaters use the east entrance to navigate both in and out of the Vermilion River .
- There will be complete river closure starting at 9:30pm until 11pm.
- The fireworks display is set to begin at 10:00pm.
- There will be five to six temporary buoys set up 500’ around the detached break wall and boaters are permitted to watch the fireworks show on the north side of these buoys.
- Both attached piers the one by Main Street Beach and the other by the lagoons beach will be off limits to spectators.
- The fireworks display will be visible by personal boat on the Lake, Main Street Beach and Festival area.
- Thank you in advance for understanding as we understand there maybe a few inconveniences.

With Memorial Weekend soon approaching we are still in full launch mode here at the marina as we get boats in the water. One of the things you notice when you launch 250 or so boats is that many captains need to review their gear and most importantly their safety equipment.
With that in mind we have asked State Watercraft Officers to lend a hand Sunday June 25th 10am-2pm. The officers are going to provide free safety inspections to make sure you and your crew start the season out in the best way possible. So mark your calendars now, then check in Saturday June 25th and get your vessel all checked out.
If you can’t make that safety inspection and to help you start your season off right, the Vermilion Marine Patrol has given us a blank inspection sheet for you to use in preparing your safety gear for the upcoming season. Just click on the image below to enlarge it and print it.
After all the best captains are the ones who don’t rely on luck! See you dockside!
Sounds catchy doesn’t it? When the Sun does eventually shine, temps roll up in the 70’s every day and the boats will start to make quite a splash around here. As you can see in the image below if you start with a good morning, it all flows smoothly from there.
So our job is to get going and get the boats in the water so our captains and crews can start enjoying the many days of boating ahead.
For those looking for a place to drop anchor, we have a good selection of docks available, but some of those are going fast so make sure you stop by and get yours now.
Remember Memorial Day weekend is getting closer as every day we tick off the calendar in May is a day closer to kickoff. So make sure you have your ship in shape and get those launch orders filled out and turned in soon. You don’t want to miss the boat!
Was a pretty good week dockside at your homeport, we launched some boats, then launched some more, then…well…launched a couple more; so we really are making a splash at your family fun marina.
Some Captains and Crew have even taken to the lake in search of Walleye before the water gets too warm and the big eyes go deep. Though this time of year everyone has to use caution out on Lake Erie when she’s only in the high 40’s lower 50’s. Not quite bathing suit weather just yet.
We encourage our dockers to check their launch orders over and get those turned in so we can get you on the schedule. Also, those already in should go through their safety gear and make sure everything is in order prior to heading out.
Then for those still looking for a nice place to drop anchor, stop by Romp’s Lake Erie Marina and let us show you what we have to offer. (such as here, here and here
It won’t be long before Summer will be right around the corner and you wouldn’t want to miss the boat!
We have been emailed and called several times about the opening date for Dairy Dock and we want our fans to know that we will be ready to go with your favorite treats on April 13th (11:30am).
So get ready to get that sweet tooth satisfied and we thank you for the support!
We want to wish all of our captains and crews a very Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Here’s hoping the road does indeed rise up to meet you, yet the lake lays down before you. Here at your home-port we are getting more and more excited to start the boating season. So chase your rainbows, and soon you can chase the Sun.
Despite cool temps and gray weather folks will be out in big numbers, so be please be careful when you celebrate. And for those who are looking for a place to drop anchor, we are open Saturday from 10-3 and we will have coffee ready for the day after. See you dockside!
Sure that may sound silly, but we get pretty excited here at your home-port when we hear that splashing sound of docks going back in the water.
And while the photo above will not win any awards for color or photography in general, it sure looks great to us because it signifies the beginning to what we look forward to the most…. The boating season.
Of course we hope you are now making plans to do some splashing of your own this coming summer, and we have just place for you anchor those family plans.
So stop by and see all that we have to offer your crew this boating season.
We are now Open Saturday’s from 10-3 to serve you better….We hope to see you dockside here at Romp’s Lake Erie Marina.
First some news we are proud to share; this past week we were awarded the Ohio Clean Marina designation for the 10th year in a row. Why is this important? Well it shows you our voluntary commitment to preserving the environment so everyone can enjoy clean water for boating and fishing activities.
That said, with each passing day we are also inching closer and closer to seasonable temps, and with it plans for a spring launch. Right now we are working on launch orders so we can get them in the mail in hopes that when the thermometer goes up, the docks can go in. While it may seem early yet to talk of launching boats, these things have a way of sneaking up on the unprepared.
After all, it won’t be long and the river will look like this again!
So if your out and about and you want to talk spring and launch, or if your new to boating and your looking for a place to call your home-port stop in and see why Romp’s is Lake Erie’s Family Fun Marina.
We’ll have the coffee on for you!….We hope to see you dockside.
Open 10am to 3pm Saturday!
Sure it may not last, but we will take these mild temps in the 60’s as a pre-cursor to what could be a very nice Spring and Summer ahead. And it won’t be that long before this pic below is next on the agenda –\/
In fact the warm weather has some of our Dairy Dock fans sending us reminders that there’s some sweet tooth work to be done as they look forward to the Ice Cream stand opening.
Here is a pic sent to us yesterday making a “Cone”-vincing argument as to when we should open.
So hang in there, Spring is just around the corner….soon it will look like this at Romp’s Lake Erie Marina.
Here’s hoping that the 2017 boating season is a great one. We are very blessed as a family to have the best Captain’s and Crews on Lake Erie, and we also hope that your New Year’s Resolution involves more fun in the sun with family and friends!
So here’s hoping that this year is every bit as good as the very best. Our family wishes all of our dockers a very safe and prosperous 2016 and can’t wait to get past these cold months and get the boating season underway!
Happy New Year from the whole crew at your favorite Lake Erie marina at Romp’s!
