Happy Birthday America!… How boating gave birth to a nation…

Thankfully, everyone gets a nice end of the week break to spend time with family and friends on the water as we celebrate our country’s birth, so we thought we would remind all how boating played a key role in shaping this nation.

In fact, boats and boating are part of the American fabric as it took some sturdy wood for Columbus to land in the new world and get credit for discovering our continent.

Followed shortly by the Mayflower full of Pilgrims looking for a new home and freedom.

Even our founding fathers got in the act using rowboats to move an army and catch the British off guard, helping give birth to our Democracy. Of course this is but one example of America’s illustrious nautical history.

Why just a couple of years ago we were celebrating the Bicentennial of The Battle of Lake Erie where Commodore Perry outmaneuvered and out-gunned an opponent with superior numbers, forever reminding us that you “Don’t Give Up The Ship”, ever.

So enjoy the time off and celebrate our Nation’s Birth, doing it with a boat would only be the historically correct thing to do. Enjoy!
