Happy Birthday USA!…How boating gave birth to a nation.

Thankfully, everyone gets a nice start of the week break to spend time with family and friends on the water as we celebrate our country’s birth, so we thought we would remind all how boating played a key role in shaping this nation.

columbus-landing-new-world

In fact, boats and boating are part of the American fabric. It took some sturdy wood for Columbus to land in the new world and get credit for discovering our continent.

washington-delaware-l

Even our founding fathers got in the act using rowboats to move an army and catch the British off guard, helping give birth to our Democracy. Of course this is but one example of America’s illustrious nautical history.

battle_of_lake_erie_full_size

Why just a couple of years ago we were celebrating the Bicentennial of The Battle of Lake Erie where Commodore Perry outmaneuvered and out-gunned an opponent with superior numbers, forever reminding us that you “Don’t Give Up The Ship”, ever.

So enjoy the time off and celebrate our Nation’s Birth, doing it with a boat would only be the historically correct thing to do. Enjoy!

Special Notice: Due to safety factors such as proximity to fuel, fireworks of any kind are strictly prohibited at Romp’s. Thank you for your understanding.

The forecast for America’s Birthday not only includes sunshine and temps in the 80’s, but also a pool to relax in and some drinks served very cold. Now that’s a forecast you can take to the bank.

Please note, that For those needing parts or Service Department assistance our service staff will be off on Monday in addition to the weekend as they get to spend some much deserved time with family.

But fear not, the rest of our staff will be here serving you on the 4th and throughout the weekend as we celebrate America’s Birthday. So come out and relax and enjoy time with your family at your home-port this weekend!

So enjoy the freedom to splash around with family whether on the lake or in the pool. Maybe even sink a hook or two in search of the perfect perch to cook for your Holiday Meal. Either way, it’s your weekend to relax and celebrate the birth of this great nation. So enjoy!

Here in #THELAND…we give thanks!

We know a little about Father’s Day fun here at your home-port, but as if sunshine and a flat lake on Father’s Day wasn’t already great, Labron James and the Cav’s topped it off with the best Father’s Day gift of all time. The Game 7 win was so big here in North East Ohio, that even in little Vermilion we have to pause and say WOW!

IMG_20160620_085403_746

So, from all of us here at your home-port we just wanted to say thank you to the boys in wine and gold. After 52 years our part of Ohio certainly deserved to catch a break, and for that we are thankful.

Fathers Day and Fish Festival…..Why two is better then one!

ffish2This weekend has a lot of fun on tap. First we have three days of merriment at Vermilion’s own Festival of the Fish presented by the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce.

The fun starts with Fireworks Friday night, then follows with a weekend featuring fun food and booths of all type, a parade with Fire Trucks, a crazy craft race, and a lighted boat parade.

Plus you can actually avoid the bait and waiting for the bites and just buy a perch sandwich right at the festival!

Then, of course, we can’t forget Dad. Romp’s dockers stop by dockside and buy dear ole’ Dad a

Romps Famous Cheeseburger hot of the grill. And we’re not talking gas or propane, but old fashion charcoal like Dad used to make. Saturday the 18th at 11:30 till the coals get cold, in the Romper Room.

Father’s Day and Fish Festival Weekend combo coming up.

We know this weekend has a lot going on, so get ready to light up the end of your work week. On June 17th, the Fish Festival committee will presenting it’s annual FIREWORKS! This exciting event will take place right off of Vermilion’s own breakwall at the entrance to the harbor.

(pic above linked from Vermilion Chamber of Commerce, courtesy of Vermilion Photog Scott Dommin).
Due to safety, and the fact it will be held at the mouth of the Vermilion River there are some issues that all boaters should be aware of. The details below were provided by the Festival of the Fish committee and the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce:
  • Due to the safety of this event we are asking spectators and boaters to take a look at the map (below) of the area and please be aware of our safety zones that will be set in place.
  • The west entrance to the Vermilion River will not be accessible once the fireworks are placed on the break wall. We are asking that boaters use the east entrance to navigate both in and out of the Vermilion River .
  • There may be traffic interruption, click the chamber link above for details.
  • The fireworks display is set to begin at dusk.
  • There will be five to six temporary buoys set up 500’ around the detached break wall and boaters are permitted to watch the fireworks show on the north side of these buoys.
  • Both attached piers the one by Main Street Beach and the other by the Lagoon’s beach will be off limits to spectators.
  • The fireworks display will be visible by personal boat on the Lake, Main Street Beach and Festival area.
  • Festival organizers thank you in advance for understanding and hope you get a chance to attend this event.

So get ready to get a real bang out of your summer!

Anchor your weekend around something fun!

We know it’s a busy time of year with graduations and typically the wedding season gets in high gear as well, but we want you to know that when your ready to get away from it all, we’re here!

IMG_20160603_200926_418b

There is something about getting outside and in nature that has a calming effect in our world of beeping and buzzing technology. Maybe you just need to hear the sound of water lapping against the side of your boat as you send some worms out on hooks to get the big one. Or jump right in and splash around a while in our heated pool. Either way, it good to take a break and that’s what we here for.
